NELLORE FISH CURRY Recipe - The Easy Way !!

Nellore Fish Curry

Synopsis:

Nellore Chapala Pulusu (Nellore fish curry) is a tangy gravy with soft sea fish. Fish can be cooked in tamarind sauce for tanginess or raw mango can be added for a different tangy taste. Nellore, a coastal district of Andhra Pradesh is very famous for its authentic fish curry. Each spice used in the gravy gives a balanced taste.

Prep time: 25 min, Cook time: 20 min, Serves: 3

Ingredients:

600 g fish pieces

½ cup of refined oil

1 tsp mustard

1 tsp methi seeds

1 cup chopped onions

2 tsp garlic, chopped

4 tsp ginger-garlic paste

1 tsp turmeric

2 tsp red chilli powder

1 tsp cumin powder

2 tsp coriander powder

1 cup tomato puree

½ cup coconut paste

2 streaks of curry leaves

6 slit green chillies

2 dry red chillies

¼ cup tamarind pulp or few green mango pieces

2 tsp chopped coriander

Salt to taste

Preparation Method:

Step-01:
Heat oil in a pan and crackle mustard and methi seeds. Sauté onions, garlic, curry leaves, green chillies.

Step-02:
Add ginger-garlic paste, turmeric, coriander powder, cumin powder, chilli powder, dry red chillies and sauté till it attains a golden brown colour.

Step-03:
To this add tomato puree, coconut paste and fry for 2 minutes. Then add some water, salt and boil for 5-6 minutes.

Step-04:
Add tamarind pulp or raw mango pieces, fish pieces and mix well. Boil with the lid on over a low flame till the fish is done.

Step-05:
When the gravy thickens, take in a serving dish and garnish with chopped coriander. This gravy goes well with hot plain rice.
